| Watch our movie to see our collaborative art process! We are collaborative artists (Mendocino and Lake County). Our process is a conversation on canvas. We respond to each other's marks and moves, to tell our story, usually in paint or collage on canvas. Ego takes a back seat to creativity. Our images have a narrative aspect to them, whether they are humorous or political, and our subject matter comes from events and found objects that we collectively bring to the canvas. Naturally, due to our backgrounds, design is a very strong element, and our inclination is to the beautiful, even in the darkest political moments. There is a quote from Joseph Campbell about marriage that we think also speaks to our collaborative painting process: "Marriage is not a love affair. A love affair has to do with immediate personal satisfaction. Marriage is an ordeal; it means yielding, time and again. That's why it's a sacrament; you give up your personal simplicity to participate. And you are not giving to the other person; you are giving to the relationship. Because you are not giving to the other person, it is not impoverishing - it is life-building, life-fostering, enriching." |
